DLSA generates awareness on National Girl Child Day in Hailakandi

Jan.25: The District Legal Services Authority organised an awareness programme on National Girl Child Day at Rangauti Girls’ Higher Secondary School in collaboration with Rangauti Gaon Panchayat here on Monday. Officials from government departments and agencies like District Social Welfare Department, Joint Director of Health Services, Child Welfare Committee and Childline attended the programme.

Zakir Hussain Mazumder, staff of Childline, Atjal Hussain Choudhury GP President Rangauti, Shaheed Ahmed Laskar, resource person from Social Welfare Department, Gulzar Ahmed Laskar District Child Protection Officer and members from different NGOs, teaching and non-teaching staff of Rangauti Girls’ Higher Secondary School participated in the programme to generate awareness amongst the students as well as people of the area on the need to protect and safeguard the girl child.

Rajesh Chakraborty, LDA, District Legal Services Authority explained the objectives of the awareness programme and the activities of DLSA. Karuna Devi, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority highlighted the role of DLSA, the utilities of 1098 Childline, 181 Women helpline number and various sections of IPC which deal with protection of women and children, especially girl child.

Officials from government departments and agencies put forth the aims and objectives of their respective departments and their roles for assuring rights of girl child in the society. An audio-visual presentation was made on child rights and good and bad touch by DLSA in collaboration with Childline. The meeting concluded with vote of thanks by Islam Uddin Mazumder, Principal, Rangauti Girls’ Higher Secondary School. The programme was attended by around 500 people including students.
