Diwali Gift: Assam Govt announces 5% DA hike to be effective from 1 July, 2019

October 21: The Assam Government has hiked dearness allowance (DA) by 5 percent for its employees. Also, dearness relief (DR) for the pensioners was also hiked by 5 percent. The 5 percent enhancement in dearness allowance will be effective from 1 July, 2019. With this hike, the State government employees and pensioners will be entitled to 17 per cent DA and DR in all.

This was approved by the Assam Cabinet on 21 October, 2019. Dearness Allowance is a component of salary paid to employees to counter the effect of inflation.

It needs mention here that the Union Government enhanced the DA for all central government employees and pensioners by 5 percent on 9 October. Just within a fortnight, the Assam government too followed the central government and hiked DA to the same tune for all state government employees and pensioner. The hike is based on the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission and will be effective from July 2019.
