District Bar Association writes to health minister for appointing cardio & neuro doctors at SMCH
July 17: Many decades have passed since the establishment of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), but till now, the College is devoid of experts from the field of cardiologist, cardio-surgeon, neurologist and neuro-surgeon. As a result, many people of the Valley has lost their lives due to unavailability of proper treatment. The untimely demise of a youth, Sayantan Chakraborty, a year ago has made the people of Barak Valley to raise a strong demand for appointment of doctors in cardio and neuro departments of SMCH.
On Friday, along with many others, District Bar Association, Silchar has also come forward and raised a strong demand of appointing cardiologist, cardio-surgeon, neurologist and neuro-surgeon at SMCH at the earliest. In this connection, the Bar Association has sent a memorandum to the Health Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In the said letter, the District Bar Association wrote, “We members of District Bar Association, Silchar would like to bring to your kind consideration the pressing demand of appointment of cardiologist. cardio-surgeon. neurologist & neuro-surgeon, the posts for which are lying vacant for quite some time. We have lost many lives for unavailability of the doctors in the said departments. Multiple demands were made in this regard, but till now no promises made in this connection were fulfilled.
They further mentioned, “It has been learnt that doctors from other parts of the country are willing to join and serve at SMCH. Considering the gravity of the situation, we request you to kindly exercise your good office for expeditious appointment of Cardiologist, Cardio Surgeon. Neurologist & Neuro Surgeon at SMCH at the earliest.”
On behalf of District Bar Association,Silchar, the letter was signed by its President Niladri Roy, Vice President Sumita Som, Secretary Abdul Hai Laskar, Joint Secretary Amalava Das and Assistant Secretary Abhijit Kar. The memorandum was sent to the health minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.
