Dist Agricuture dept opens ‘Farmers Corner’ in Silchar, sells item used during Makar Sankranti
Jan. 12: Celebrating the end of the harvest season and the cold, harsh winters is termed by different names in culturally varied Indian states like Lohri or Makar Sankranti or Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu. On the first day of Magh Bihu or Uruka or the Makar Sankranti, women prepare food items like- Chira, Pitha, Laru, Curd for the following day of celebrations. Keeping the festivities in mind, District Agriculture Office, Cachar has come up with a store selling edible products.
On the eve of harvesting festival “Bhogali Bihu, Makar Sankranti” a Farmer’s Corner was opened on Tuesday at District Agriculture Office premises in Silchar. Agricultural produces like Black Rice, Red Rice, Glutenous scented rice (biroin) & other items generally used to make dishes during the festivities were sold.
