Dipayan Chakraborty gets party ticket from BJP for prestigious Silchar seat
March 5: Putting an end to all speculations, BJP declared its list of candidates for Assam Assembly Elections, 2021 on Friday evening. Sitting MLA Dilip Kumar Paul failed to have his last smile. Dipayan Chakraborty was given the ticket by BJP to contest for the prestigious Silchar seat.
Meanwhile, though not officially declared, yet as per reliable sources, it’s almost confirm that Tamal Kanti Banik has been selected as the Congress candidate from Silchar Assembly Constituency. That means the fight for the Silchar seat will be directly between Dipayan Chakraborty of BJP versus Tamal Kanti Banik of Congress.
Moreover, 3 sitting MLA’s were not given ticket by the BJP this time. They are Dilip Kumar Paul, Kishore Nath and Amar Chand Jain. The 7 candidates who were given tickets by BJP for the 7 assembly constituencies of Cachar district are:
- Silchar: Dipayan Chakraborty
- Sonai: Aminul Haque Laskar
- Dholai: Parimal Suklabaidya
- Udharbond: Mihir Kanti Shome
- Lakhipur: Kaushik Rai
- Borkhola: Amalendu Das
- Katigorah: Gautam Roy
