Dhurba Mahanta appointed as Principal Press Secretary to CM Assam

May 21: Journalist Dhruba Mahanta has been appointed as the Principal Press Secretary to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Mahanta is the consulting editor of the Assamese news channel News Live. Whereas, Journalist Naba Patgiri has been made officer on special duty (communication, public relations and protocol).

Meanwhile, Assam Information and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika announced that the monthly pension amount of journalists’ pension scheme will be increased to Rs 10, 000 from Rs 8,000 in the state. Besides, he announced that Govt will also provide one time financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh to the next of kin of the journalists in case of untimely death of a journalist while performing his/her duties.
This announcement was made by I & P R Minister Pijush Hazarika in a meeting held with various journalist associations of the state at his office conference room at Janata Bhawan on Thursday. The meeting was also attended by I & PR Secretary Neera Gogoi Sonowal, Director of Information & Public Relations Anupam Choudhury among others.
