Dholai Co-District celebrates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary

way2barak, November 13: In a spectacular display of unity, patriotism and cultural pride, the District Administration Cachar, in collaboration with Dholai co-district administration and My Bharat Cachar, celebrated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Dholai on Thursday. The daylong event held under the aegis of the District Administration Cachar and with active participation from various state government departments, clubs, NGOs, and educational institutions turned into a grand public celebration of India’s spirit of integrity and resilience.

 

The celebration commenced with a massive Unity March that began in front of BNMP School, Dholai, flagged off by Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, and Co-District Commissioner , Dholai, Roktim Baruah, more than one thousand students, youth volunteers, and local citizens joined the march carrying the message of peace, harmony, and self-reliant India. The vibrant procession moved through key roads of Dholai and culminated at the Conference District Auditorium, where thousands gathered to pay floral tributes to Bharat Mata.

 

Addressing the gathering, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, who was also the Chief Guest on the occasion, paid glowing tribute to the Iron Man of India and commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reviving the legacy of Sardar Patel through initiatives like the Statue of Unity and nationwide unity campaigns. “Sardar Patel’s unmatched statesmanship united 562 princely states into one nation. His vision continues to guide our national consciousness even today,” he stated.

The MP also elaborated on the colourful and inspiring life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, emphasizing how his leadership was pivotal in shaping modern India. “It was because of Sardar Patel’s farsightedness and strong will that post-Independence India was united from 562 princely states into a single sovereign nation,” MP Suklabaidya said. “Had it not been for his firm resolve and wisdom, India today might have remained fragmented, plagued by internal conflict and division. The nation will never forget his unparalleled contribution. It is because of this immense legacy that the Modi Government has declared his birth anniversary as ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and observes it nationwide through the Run for Unity programme,” he added.

 

The MP further highlighted that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s remarkable statesmanship and unwavering nationalism laid the foundation for a united India. “Had Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel not shown such courage and political acumen during those crucial years after Independence, our country would have been divided into many fragments, embroiled in continuous strife. His contribution is timeless, and every Indian owes him gratitude,” mentioned MP Suklabaidya. He lauded the Modi Government’s vision in keeping Patel’s ideals alive among the new generation through the Run for Unity and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiatives that promote oneness and nation-building.

 

While speaking on the occasion, Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, addressing the gathering, emphasized that Patel’s ideals of discipline, nationalism, and self-reliance must continue to inspire India’s youth. “Our young generation must take inspiration from Sardar Patel to build a nation free from division, addiction, and apathy. His life is a timeless example of dedication and sacrifice for the motherland,” he said, urging the youth to uphold the values of integrity and service to the nation.

 

Earlier, Co-District Commissioner Roktim Baruah in his speech, highlighted that Sardar Patel’s life is not merely history, it is a roadmap for modern India. “Unity and development go hand in hand. Sardar Patel envisioned a nation where every citizen contributes to collective progress. The Unity March today reflects our commitment to that vision,”CDC Baruah added . He thanked all departments, volunteers, and cultural groups for their enthusiastic participation in making the event a success.

 

Delivering the welcome address, Mehebub Alam Laskar, Deputy Director of My Bharat lauded the overwhelming participation of the people and highlighted the essence of youth involvement in realizing the dream of a strong, united, and self-reliant India. “The ideals of Sardar Patel remind us that the strength of our nation lies in the unity of its people. Today’s gathering reflects that indomitable spirit,” he said.

 

The event also featured vibrant cultural performances, including patriotic songs and traditional dances such as Bihu, Dhamail, Manipuri, and Dimasa, presented by local artists, capturing the essence of India’s rich cultural mosaic. Sonai Circle Officer Maria Tanim administered an oath to the youth, urging them to stay away from drugs and dedicate their energy toward nation-building.

 

Adding a unique touch, Self Help Groups from various parts of Dholai co district- showcased their handmade products at a Swadeshi Mela, attracting visitors with an array of local crafts and traditional food items, promoting the spirit of “Vocal for Local.”

 

The celebration concluded with a plantation drive symbolizing the pledge for a greener and united India. MP Parimal Suklabaidya, MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, and other dignitaries planted saplings under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, as a part of the event. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Neihat Haolai, Assistant commissioner and Incharge, Block Development Officer, Dholai-Narsingpur Development Block, who expressed gratitude to all contributors for making the occasion a grand success.
