Deboraj Upadhaya appointed Chairman of APSC

way2barak, January 9: The Assam Government appointed retired IPS Deboraj Upadhaya as the chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) today. IAS Bhaskar Phukan and ACS Mrigesh Narayan Baruah have been appointed as members.

Official notification, signed by the Governor of Assam, confirmed the appointment, stating, “In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 316 of the Constitution of India and the Assam Public Service Commission Regulation 1951 (as amended), the Governor of Assam is pleased to appoint Shri Deboraj Upadhyay, IPS (Retd.), Member, Assam Public Service Commission, as Chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission with effect from the date of taking over charge.”

Upadhyay succeeds Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, a former IAS officer, who previously held the position. The reshuffle also saw the appointment of two new members to the APSC – ACS officers Mrigesh N. Barua and Bhaskar Phukon.

A highly decorated officer, Upadhyay has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and has a distinguished career in law enforcement. Notably, he served as the Inspector General of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police.
