Death goes on unabated: 5 more deaths in last 24 hours at SMCH
August 21: The coronavirus pandemic has now led to a procession of death also in Barak Valley. Though in terms of percentage, this may be very nominal or may be just a number, but for the family members of the deceased, each death means everything for them. Since the last few days, the valley witnessed many deaths, although all of them were not certified as COVID-19 deaths. However, this also cannot be denied that all of them were infected with coronavirus. In the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 5 more deaths at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Out of the five deceased, 3 are from Cachar and 1 each from Hailakandi & Karimganj. This was stated by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). The 5 deceased were identified as:
- Arpita Aditya (79) from 1st Link Road was admitted at SMCH on 14 August, after being infected with novel coronavirus. She, however, succumbed to the infection at 8 PM on 20 August.
- Sachindra Paul (74) from Sashan Road, Silchar was admitted at SMCH on 3 August. He died at 6.30 PM on 20 August.
- Bidhu Bhushan Das (57) from Nij Joynagar in Cachar got admitted at SMCH on 9 August. He, however, succumbed to the infection at 7.30 PM on 20 August. This case was certified by State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 death.
- Jashomanta Dutta (66) from Karimganj got admitted at SMCH at 5.26 PM on 19 August. He died at 12.05 AM.
- Haripada Debnath (55) from Hailakandi was admitted at SMCH on 19 August. He, however, died due to coronavirus at 7 AM on 21 August. His death was also certified as COVID-19 death by the State Audit Board.
