Deadlock at Rosekandy: Leaders of Cha Sramik Union & Bhojpuri Parishad meet labourers
June 18: It’s more than a week, yet the deadlock persists in Rosekandy Tea Estate in south Assam’s Cachar district. The workers of the tea garden have been demanding ouster of garden manager Ishwar Bhai Ubhadia who had been running this tea garden for the past 35 years. Heavy security arrangements have been made outside the garden and the university campus area to thwart any uprising in the Rosekandy Tea Estate.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, MLA Lakhipur Sri Rajdip Goala, former state Minister Ajit Singh, Vice President of Akhil Assam Bhojpuri Parishad (AABP) central committee Sanjeev Roy, AABP Cachar Zila Committee President Dr. Ranjan Singh, D N. Baroi, AABP Cachar Zila Committee General Secretary Surojit Mishra, Dinesh Kahar and local leader Babul Kumar met the tea garden labourers and took stock of the situation.
Addressing the gathering, former Minister Ajit Singh, who is also the General Secretary of Barak Upottaka Cha Sramik Union and MLA Rajdeep Goala, who is also the Assistant General Secretary of the Union urged upon the tea labourers of Rosekandy Tea Estate not to take law in their hands but to resolve the present crisis through dialogue.
The tea labourers, on the other hand, informed that if by next Friday their prime demand of ousting the Manager of the garden IB Ubhadia is not done then they will block the Silchar Hailakandi road at Dwarbond for an indefinite period of time.
Earlier during the week, Manager IB Ubhadia refused to speak to anyone who is not an employee of my garden. He said that the ball is now in the court of the government and the district administration to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.
