DC orders prove after hanging bridge collapse in Karimganj; around 30 students injured
Oct. 5: An enquiry was ordered by Karimganj district administration to find out evidence and cause for the sudden collapse of a hanging bridge in Cheragi under the Ratabari constituency in which more than 30 school students sustained injuries. Class X students of Cheragi Vidyapeeth were injured when a hanging bridge over the Singla River collapsed on Monday evening. As per reports, the students were returning from school when the hanging bridge collapsed. Deputy Commissioner Khageswar Pegu assured a proper enquiry.
The local villagers revealed that this is the only bridge used by them for past several years to reach other areas and schools. Soon after the incident they were rushed to hospital by locals. Local MLA Bijoy Malakar expressed concern over the collapse of the bridge constructed in 2017 and sought a detailed enquiry into the incident. Locals further alleged that the long standing demand of a RCC bridge was turned down and instead a hanging bridge was constructed there. They expressed anger and resentment towards the local MLA and the district administration for the apathy.
