COVID-19: Kolkata bans flight from 6 cities from 6 to 19 July

July 5: In the backdrop of the rising number of coronavirus cases, Flights from six cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai and Ahmedabad – will not land in Kolkata for two weeks from 6 to 19 July. This decision comes after the West Bengal government requested the Centre to suspend flights from Covid-19 hotspot areas. However, there is no ban on departures from Kolkata for any domestic locations, including these cities.

The developments come days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged the Centre to stop international repatriation flights and domestic flights to Kolkata till July 31 from states with high Covid-19 prevalence. West Bengal is also witnessing a steep rise in cases. A large number of cases has been reported from people coming in the State from outside with infection. It needs mention here that the number of Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has already crossed the 20,000-mark.
