DC Hailakandi visits vulnerable areas to prevent second wave of flood
July 19: In order to check up on potential sensitive areas for the next probable wave of flood, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli visited vulnerable areas of Hailakandi on Friday that have been flood affected to take stock of actions to be taken to prevent second wave of flood, if any. She was accompanied by Circle Officer Algapur.
She visited Kalinagar Part ll in a boat to see the eroding land mass. She also visited Barnie Breas bund area, Mohnapur Part Vl and Part lX and interacted with the local people and departmental officials. She further went around Jitai Nadi area to see river blockade.
On Thursday also, Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Keerthi Jalli visited some areas in the district like Pola sluice gate at Algapur, Rangauti Gaon Panchayat, Rajyeshwarpur, Kalacherra dyke, Vanghkhai Likhai dyke, Tosla dyke etc in Hailakandi and Lala revenue circles along with Circle Officer, Executive Engineer PWD RR, Executive Engineer i/c WR and other officials.
It needs mention here that incessant rains during the last weak resulted in flood in many parts of Hailakandi district. Altogether 24 villages of which 10 villages under Hailakandi, 11 villages under Lala and three villages under Katlicherra revenue circles have been affected by flood waters. 98 hectares of cropped areas have been damaged affecting 1,037 farm families. Following submersion, 5,300 animals and 3,800 poultry have been affected, informed District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, RA Laskar. Following a major breach at Mohanpur embankment, flood waters have gushed through inundating Mohanpur and other areas of Hailakandi district on July 13th, 2019.
