DC Hailakandi makes arrangement for door step delivery of groceries
March 26: Thursday marks the second day of the three-week lockdown period. However, at many parts of India including Barak Valley multiple instances are observed where people are violating the lockdown and are on the streets on many pretexts. Even the grocery shops and pharmacies are full of customers who are not maintaining the ideal norms of ‘social distancing.’ This has become a major issue of concern for the administration.
However, a plausible solution in this connection was initiated by Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi who has announced that, “To keep crowds minimal, and to promote healthy alternatives, we are announcing ‘SAHAYATA’ for door step delivery of groceries with minimal delivery charges. Request town residents and make use of this facility. Please stay indoors.” This initiative was adopted by Hailakandi District Administration in collaboration with Hailakandi Municipal Board.
Rs. 50 delivery charges will be levied for any order of commodities upto Rs 1000. Those residing in Hailakandi Ward No. 1,2,3,4, 12, 13, 15 & 16 can order their grocery items by sending Whatsapp message to Hailakandi Vivekananda Club (NGO) in their number 6002851003. Whereas, residents of Ward No. 5,6,7,8,9, 10, 11 & 14 were asked to place their order with Ekota (NGO) by messaging in their Whatsapp No. 9401275460.
The first customer to receive home delivery of groceries was Chairperson of Hailakandi Municipal Board, Shamoli Roy. Receiving the groceries at her residence, Roy said, “People of the town must avail the home delivery service at a nominal charge during the lock down. They must avoid stepping out of homes and maintain social distancing.” Members of Ekta, an NGO, engaged by the administration delivered the groceries at her home. Circle Officer cum Executive Officer, Hailakandi Municipal Board, Tridib Roy was present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, DC Hailakandi has appealed to the people to avail this service and thereby not to come on the streets. She urged all to obey the orders of the lockdown. This step of the Deputy Commissioner has started earning huge applauds in the social media. Netizens have thanked the DC Hailakandi for adopting this uique step. many have also demanded that such steps should also be taken up by the Deputy Commissioners of Cachar and Karimganj.
