DC Cachar visits World Bank financed, APART agricultural Project at Udharbond block

Dec. 4: Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar on Thursday paid a visit to the demonstration plot of Pumpkin and Rajmah raised under the World Bank Financed, ‘APART Project’ with installation of sprinkler irrigation under another Central Sector Scheme of PMKSY at village Bahadurpur under Udharbond Development Block. She was accompanied by L.I.Singh, District Agriculture Officer (DAO) and others officers of  district Agriculture Department.

The Deputy Commissioner during her visit met with one Afsana Khanom Barlaskar (who is dumb and deaf), daughter of Lutfur Rahman Barlaskar, a beneficiary of Pumpkin. She expressed her satisfaction at the performance of Barlaskar in the field of agriculture and asked the DAO to think about her transformation as an Agricultural Entrepreneur so that other beneficiaries in the allied sector may get inspiration from her.

As a part of field visit, DC Jalli witnessed practical demonstration of paddy harvesting by the use of reaper machine which has minimized the expenses of the farmers in lieu of time taking traditional method of manual harvesting. She also visited the “Zero- Tillage” Potato cultivation in the field of another Nirmal Kumar Singh at village Bahadurpur.

From there, Keerthi Jalli proceeded to village Pangram Pt-I and visited the Check Dam Project constructed over the Kulicherra Nala by the Deptartment of Soil Conservation. DAO Cachar apprised the Deputy Commissioner that for the very first time the system of Rabi crop cultivation was taken in hand. Previously, such cultivation in the nearby areas was not possible due to lack of irrigation facilities.

The DAO also apprised Jalli about the Rajmah demo with local variety of seed taken up under APART which has expected yield of around 60 tones. He said that the Department of Agriculture is contemplating about the scope of its marketing strategy in the greater interest of the monitory benefit of the farmers as well as recognition of the local variety in the National & International Market.
