DC Cachar visits site, reviews plan for construction of 300-bedded district Civil Hospital
Sept. 30: The 100-year-old District Civil Hospital which is in a dilapidated condition would be dismantled and in its place a 300-bedded hospital will come up involving around 40 to 50 crore. As per sources, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has given his consent for remodelling of SM Dev Civil Hospital on its 100th anniversary.
Working plans for the construction of 300-bedded District Civil Hospital has been taken up. A meeting in this connection was held on Tuesday under the Chairmanship of Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar. The meeting was attended by Sumit Sattavan, ADC (H)ealth, Joint Director of Health Services, EE PWD(B), Superintendent of SM Dev Civil Hospital, Chief Consultant, Consultant (NHM) from Guwahati, DPM, DME & AE (C), NHM. The ground map and proposed plan was reviewed by the Deputy Commissioner and site visit was also conducted to take up activities swiftly.
It needs mention here that Himanta Biswa Sarma pointed out that the new civil hospital would be made as an annexe hospital of SMC&H. He said that converting the civil hospital into an annexe hospital would help to decongest the SMC&H as PG students would have to render their services at the Civil Hospital. Infact, the foundation stone of the civil hospital was laid by Frederick John Napier on 2 November, 1920.
