DC Cachar takes stock of quarantine center at NATRIP & sealed areas at Central Road

May 18: In a bid to assess the quarantine facilities, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli visited NATRIP at Jhapirbond along with District Development Commissioner, Cachar Jessica Lalsim on Monday to take stock of the COVID-19 facilities over there. During her visit, Jalli made a detail discussion with circle officer, Udharbond, Jayanta Chakrabarty and Nodal officer of the quarantine center Ashit Dev, Executive engineer, Water resources.  She took stock about those kept under quarantine at NATRIP and also took note of the manifold issues faced by the officials at the centre.

Deputy Commissioner inspected all the buildings and enquired about the drinking water facilities, sanitisation and toilet facilities made available to those quarantined at NATRIP. She also interacted with the people quarantined there and enquired about their health status and quality of the food provided to them. Further, DC Jallii stressed upon the need of providing additional beds at the centre and emphasised on transforming this center to 100-bed capacity keeping in view the increasing number of people coming from outside.

Later in the afternoon, Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by District Development Commissioner Jessica Lalsim visited hotel Center Palace at Central Road, Silchar which was declared as a containment zone on Sunday following detection of a 28-years old COVID-19 patient who was quarantined at this hotel after he came back from Chennai. Jalli spoke to the manager of this hotel and expressed her gratitude for cooperating with the District Administration Cachar. She urged upon the people not to get panicked as things are under control and there is no community spread of the disease by any means.

“There is no leakage of the disease in the society as all other passengers who had travelled with the COVID-19 positive patient are in quarantine centres and kept under close watch with all facilities as per protocol. People must not get panicked by any stretch of imagination. However, they must remain alert and follow the lockdown rules,” Jalli added.

In an order issued by District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli on 17 May, it was stated that, to contain the further spread of the virus, the area surrounding the facility wherein the youth was kept under quarantine would be sealed immediately. As such, the area inside the following geographical boundaries is immediately sealed:

  • North: Hotel Divyam
  • South: Swagat Hotel
  • East: Central Road
  • West: Arun Kumar Chanda Super market Complex Hotel Centre Palace

To implement the above instructions, following restrictions were also imposed in the geographical area mentioned above:

  • No unauthorised entry and exit of the residents in the contained area will be allowed.
  • Vehicular movement is to be strictly prohibited.
  • Stricter enforcement of all statutory directions regarding social distancing.

District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli stated that the order is issued under the Regulations “The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020” and shall be effective from 11.30 PM of 17 May, 2020 until further orders.
