DC Cachar inaugurates vaccine drive for those in 12-14 age group in Cachar
March 16: Along with the rest of the nation, vaccination drive for those in the age group of 12 to 14 years was also launched in Cachar district. On Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli formally launched the Covid-19 vaccination drive for children between 12 to 14 years.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Jalli said, “It will be wrong to presume that the Covid-19 pandemic is over. Coronavirus may again step in. So we need to protect ourselves. The only means of keeping us safe from the clutches of Covid-19 is to get vaccinated. The children in this age group will be now given the 1st dose, while the 2nd dose will be administered only after 28 days.”
DC Jalli further stated that a total of 66,118 persons belonging to the age group of 12 to 14 years will be provided this vaccine in Cachar in 9 blocks of the district. She urged upon the students, parents and guardians to spread awareness among the masses so that more and more people can get themselves vaccinated.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma formally launched Covid vaccination drive for children in 12-14 age group in the state at Rukminigaon Balika Vidyalaya High School, Guwahati on Wednesday. Expressing his views, the Chief Minister said, “I want to assure all parents that this vaccine is completely safe for their children, but it should not be taken on empty stomach.”
Earlier on 13 March, 2022, the Union health ministry said in a statement, “Union Government after due deliberations with scientific bodies has decided to start Covid-19 vaccination for 12-13 year and 13-14 year age groups (those born in 2008, 2009 and 2010. i.e those who are already above 12 years of age) of population from 16th March 2022. The Covid-19 vaccine to be administered would be Corbevax manufactured by Biological Evans, Hyderabad.” Children between ages 15 and 18 are already being administered Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.
