DC Cachar hands over reconverted basic science building with 273 beds to SMCH authorities
June 18:Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, in order to accommodate more Covid-19 patients, further arrangement for additional beds were made at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). On last Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Keerthi Jalli officially handed over the reconverted basic science building at SMCH with 273 beds for usage for treatment of mildly symptomatic patients through Oxygen Concentrators. The step was taken so that ICU beds could be kept exclusively for the severe Covid patients.
Upon request by DC Cachar, Principal and Superintendent of SMCH along with their dedicated team graciously opened up their academic building as means for expansion, if need be, in case of shortage of beds.The facilities were developed by DDMA. Cylinders and Concentrators will be made available for the patients who will be admitted in the 273 new beds which were set up in the reconverted basic science building at SMCH.
As a preemptive measure, Cachar district administration has also ensured that the Eye and Surgery ward beds are connected to oxygen supply for use for Covid patients on 16-17 May, 2021. At present, 92 general beds have been converted as Oxygen beds for use of Covid patients.
Other infrastructural support works of oxygen plants, manifold rooms, new 40 bed ICU is being taken up on war footing. The district administration expressed gratitude to team SMCH for all the cooperation and their relentless efforts in saving and serving the patients round the clock.
