২৪ অক্টোবর :মা-মেয়ে জড়িয়ে ধরে সে কী কান্না ! করিমগঞ্জের সুতারকান্দি সীমান্ত চৌকিতে এই দৃশ্য দেখে খোদ বিএসএফ জওয়ানরাও চোখের জল ধরে রাখতে পারেননি। এ অবশ্য কোনও বিয়োগান্ত দৃশ্য নয়, বরং দেড় বছর মাকে খুঁজে পেয়েছেন মেয়ে। সৌজন্যে বিএসএফ।

গত সপ্তাহে এক বৃদ্ধাকে সীমান্ত চৌকির কাছে বসে থাকতে দেখেন প্রহরারত জওয়ানরা। নানা প্রশ্ন জাগে তাঁদের মনে। কিন্তু তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করতে গিয়ে বিপাকে পড়েন তাঁরা। বৃদ্ধার কোনও কথাই বোঝা যায় না। তাঁরা খবর পাঠান কমান্ডিং অফিসার ছোটে লালের কাছে। তিনি দক্ষিণী জওয়ান সহিল জবউল্লাহকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে ছুটে যান। কথা বলে বেরিয়ে আসে, ৭০ বছরের বৃদ্ধার নাম জয়েম্মা গৌড়া। বাড়ি কর্নাটকের হাসান থানা এলাকার মান্ডিগণহাল্লিতে। ভুল করে বছর দেড়েক আগে বেঙ্গালুরু-আগরতলা হামসফর এক্সপ্রেসে চড়ে বসেছিলেন। যখন ভুল বুঝতে পারেন, ততক্ষণে তিনি অসমের করিমগঞ্জে পৌঁছে গিয়েছেন। দ্রুত নেমে পড়েন জয়েম্মা। এ বার পড়লেন আরও মুশকিলে। কেউ তাঁর  কথা বোঝেন না। তিনিও কারও কথা বুঝতে পারেন না। ফলে তাঁর আর দক্ষিণী ট্রেন খুঁজে বের করা সম্ভব হয়নি। থাকতে হয় করিমগঞ্জেই। হাতের টাকা ফুরোলে হাত পাতা শুরু হয়। ভিক্ষে করে দিন কাটাচ্ছিলেন মধ্যবিত্ত পরিবারের গৃহকর্ত্রী।

ছোটে লাল তাঁর কথা ভিডিও করে ছেড়ে দেন সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায়। বেঙ্গালুরুর হাসান থানাকেও বিষয়টি জানিয়ে রাখা হয়। নানা দিক হয়ে সেই ভিডিও পড়ে মান্ডিগনহাল্লির পঞ্চায়েত সদস্যের হাতে। তিনিই ছুটে যান সুনন্দার বাড়ি। মেয়ে তো অবাক ! ওই তো আমার মা ! তিনি এখন কোথায়, কেমন আছেন—একসঙ্গে বহু প্রশ্ন আউড়াতে থাকেন।  পরে দুজনে মিলে হাসান পুলিশের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করেন। কথা হয় করিমগঞ্জ বিএসএফের সঙ্গে। তাঁদের মাধ্যমে মায়ের সঙ্গেও কথা হয় তাঁর। পরে গত রবিবার বাঙালোর থেকে বিমানে শিলচর বিমানবন্দরে পৌঁছান সুনন্দা। সেখান থেকে সুতারকান্দি সীমান্ত পোস্টে। জওয়ানরা বৃদ্ধাকে চৌকির পাশে এক বাড়িতে থাকা-খাওয়ার ব্যবস্থা করেন। তাঁরাই দেন কম্বল, চাদর, শাড়ি, কাপড়। সেখানেই দেড় বছর পরে মা-মেয়ের মিলন হল। সোমবার সুনন্দা মাকে নিয়ে রওয়ানা হন বাঙ্গালোরের উদ্দেশে।

বিএসএফ জওয়ানদের মানবিক ভূমিকায় দেড় বছর পর মেয়ের হাত ধরে বাড়ি ফিরলেন ৭০ বছরের বৃদ্ধা।

October 24: It was indeed a very emotional scene. Mother and daughter embracing each other were all in tears. This emotional scene at Sutarkandi border in Karimganj even moved the BSF jawans who too could not hide their tears. This was not any parting scene but rather a daughter found her lost mother after a lapse of one and half year. Thanks to BSF for whom this impossible became possible.

Last week, the BSF jawans on duty saw on old lady seating near the border fencing. Naturally, a number of questions arose in their mind. However, when they approached her to know about about her whereabouts, the BSF jawans fell in real trouble. They were unable to understand the language of that lady. They at once informed their commanding officer Chote Lal about this incident. Chote Lal rushed to the spot along with a South Indian jawan, Sahil Jabullah. He communicated with her in Kannad language.

It was then revealed that the name of the lady was Jayamma Gouda. She is a resident of a place called Mandiganahalli in Hasan police Station area of Karnataka. She by mistake boarded the Bengaluru-Agartala, Hamsafar Express around one and a half year ago. By the time she realized her mistake, she had reached Karimganj in Assam. At once she got down from the train. At Karimganj, more troubles awaited her. None was able to understand her language. She too could not understand anybody’s language. As a result, she was unable to find any train which would take her to South India. She had no other option but to stay at Karimganj. When her money was totally exhausted, she became bound to resort to begging.

A lady who belonged to a middle class family was surviving by begging. BSF officer Chote Lal shot a video of that lady and posted it on social media. He also informed the matter to Hasan Police Station in Bengaluru. The video after passing through several persons reached into the hands of the Panchayat member of Mandiganahalli village. He at once rushed to the house of Sunanda. The daughter was surprised. She exclaimed with joy and screamed, “This is my mother!” She started to pose multiple questions regarding the whereabouts of her missing mother. She then along with the Panchayat member approached Hasan Police. They then contacted BSF post at Karimganj, Assam. She was also able to talk with her mother over mobile.

On last Sunday, Sunanda reached Silchar airport from Bangalore. From there, she went straight to Sutarkandi check post. Meanwhile, BSF arranged for the stay of the lady in a nearby house and gave her food, clothes, blanket etc. Finally, after one and half year the daughter met her mother over there. Both of them were in tears. On Monday, Sunanda started for Bangalore along with her mother.

The humanitarian part played by BSF enabled the 70 year old lady to reunite with her daughter. Hats off to our Border Security Force.
