Cyclist Pappu Ram Choudhary pedals into Silchar
way2barak, December 23: Silchar on Monday witnessed an inspiring convergence of endurance, aspiration and environmental consciousness as young cyclist and environmental activist Pappu Ram Choudhary from Rajasthan rode into the town after covering an extraordinary distance of over 38,000 kilometres across the country. Carrying a powerful message of fitness, discipline and ecological responsibility, Choudhary’s journey struck a deep chord with students and citizens alike.
Undertaken under the banner of the ‘Shakti Sankalp Safar, Mount Everest Cycling Expedition’, the nationwide cycling campaign is far more than a test of physical endurance. It is a mission rooted in national pride and social purpose, aimed at motivating India’s youth to embrace healthy lifestyles while taking ownership of environmental protection.
As part of his visit to Cachar district, Choudhary on Tuesday participated in a tree plantation programme at Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Silchar, reinforcing the importance of sustainability and climate responsibility among students. The programme was held in the presence of the school’s In-charge Principal, Smt Bornia Das, along with teachers and students, who actively took part in the plantation drive.
Later, addressing the students and teachers, Choudhary delivered an emotionally engaging and motivational speech, urging young people to believe in themselves and contribute meaningfully to society and nation-building.
“My journey is not about cycling alone; it is about building character and consciousness,” Choudhary said, emphasising that today’s youth possess immense potential to shape the nation’s future. “If that power is guided by discipline, fitness and responsibility towards the nation and the environment, India’s future will be unstoppable,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of healthy habits, road safety and environmental protection, he said that success is rooted in consistency and self-belief. “I come from an ordinary background, but I dared to dream big. I want our youth to dream as high as Everest and work every day to reach those heights. Fitness is not a luxury; it is a responsibility. Discipline is not a restriction; it is freedom. Protecting nature is not a choice; it is our duty to the next generation,” he mentioned.
Calling upon students to become agents of change, Choudhary urged them to understand the impact of individual actions on the nation’s future. “Every sapling you plant, every healthy habit you adopt and every disciplined step you take contributes to nation-building. No dream is too big when backed by hard work and determination,” he concluded.
It is noteworthy that having already cycled through 21 states and six Union Territories, Choudhary’s expedition reflects a larger vision that transcends distance and milestones. His ultimate ambition is to scale Mount Everest in 2026 and unfurl the national tricolour at the summit, symbolising determination, discipline and the spirit of a fit and resilient India.
Running parallel to his cycling expedition is an ambitious green mission to plant one lakh saplings across the country. So far, nearly 30,000 saplings have been planted through plantation drives organised along his route, underscoring his sustained commitment to environmental conservation and climate action.
