Crime Branch Mumbai nabs a rape accused from Hailakandi
Feb. 8: A case was registered against a resident of Hailakandi district at Colaba Police Station, Mumbai in Maharashtra bearing No. 204/21 under section 376. It is in this connection, that a team from Mumbai Police came to Hailakandi to nab the accused. Finally, in collaboration with Hailakandi Police, the accused Sajir Ahmed Mazumdar was apprehended.
As per reports, on receiving intimation about the case by Colaba Police, a team of Lala Police went in search of the accused and nabbed him from a place called Dhanipur at Lala in Hailakandi district of Assam. He was then handed over to Colaba Police, who will now take the accused along with them to Mumbai.
Though the details about the crime committed by the accused Sajir Ahmed Mazumdar was not divulged either by the cops of Mumbai Police or by Lala Police, yet it was informed that a case U/S 376 of IPC was lodged against him at Colaba Police Station. However, sources revealed that the accused worked in a company in Mumbai when he became close to a girl over there. But later on, girl lodged a complaint (number 204/21) under section 376 of the IPC at Colaba Police Station. Since then, the accused was absconding.
Section 376 of IPC deals with rape cases and states that the Punishment for rape—Whoever, except in the cases provided for by sub-section (2), commits rape shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than seven years but which may be for life or for a term which may extend to ten years and shall also be liable to fine unless the women raped is his own wife and is not under twelve years of age, in which cases, he shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both: Provided that the court may, for adequate and special reasons to be mentioned in the judgment, impose a sentence of imprisonment for a term of less than seven years.
