Crackdown on illegal offline/Online lotteries, Cachar issues prohibition order
way2barak ,October 22: In strict compliance with a directive from the Gauhati High Court, the District Magistrate of Cachar, Mridul Yadav has issued an immediate prohibition on the organization and operation of offline and online lotteries across the district. This order follows a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that highlighted the illegal conduct of such lotteries in various districts of Assam.
Responding to the court’s directive, the Home & Political Department, Government of Assam, instructed all district administrations to enforce stringent actions against such unlawful activities. The court order specifically bars District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from granting any permission to individuals or organizations intending to conduct lotteries, whether offline or online.
In his official capacity, Mridul Yadav, District Magistrate, Cachar, invoked the powers vested in him under Section 163 of the BNSS to enforce a district-wide ban on all forms of lotteries. The order is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
The District Magistrate emphasized that any violation of this order will result in strict legal action under relevant laws. The Cachar administration remains committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring that no such illegal activities are allowed to undermine public welfare.
