Covid +ve patient, a retd ADC from National Highway- dies at SMCH
15 patients are kept under ventilation support at SMCH
May 10: Death of Covid positive patients continues at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Retired Additional Commissioner (ADC) Mriganko Mohan Das (82) was admitted at SMCH on 8 May. He was tested coronavirus positive. He, however, breathed his last at 10.50 PM on 9 May. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Monday evening.
As per sources, the wife of the deceased Mriganko Mohan Das was also learnt to be Covid positive and was undergoing treatment at SMCH. Their son, Mridul Mohan Das, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, GC College, Silchar has also been tested positive, but is in home isolation.
Family sources revealed that the wife of Mriganko Mohan Das initially was detected as Covid positive, whereas, he was negative. But on Sunday, the retired ADC fell down from a rickshaw and got hurt. He was then rushed to Silchar Medical College. As per protocol, the doctors did Covid test in which he was found positive. However, Mr. Mriganko Mohan Das passed away, a day later on Monday.
Dr. Bhaskar Gupta further informed that 165 active Covid patients are in Covid ward and 36 are in ICU. Another 42 patients among them are in oxygen support and 15 are in ventilation. On Monday, 11 new positive patients were admitted at SMCH, while 20 of them were discharged after getting cured.
