Covid screening on for both air and rail passengers in Silchar

May 22: In view of the rising coronavirus cases in the state, Assam government has directed to conduct Covid test of both air and rail passengers coming from outside the state. Following the directives, Covid screening and testing of passengers are going on in full swing at Silchar Railway Station and at Mahatma Gandhi Model Hospital at Tikal (for air passengers). Till now, many were detected Covid-19 positive during the regular screening activities.

Moreover, district health department has also expressed apprehension of violation of Covid guidelines by a section of the populace. Many who have opted for home isolation are often been found to violate the norms and venture outside their homes. This has led to further spread of the disease in the district. Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert during a recent briefing said such irresponsible activities of some people has become a major cause of concern, He informed that stern action will be taken against people violating Covid protocols. Further, Screening points have also been set up for checking inter district movement.

Meanwhile, the Police Control Room located at Silchar Police Station from now onwards will also function as the Covid-19 Control Room where all violations of guidelines for containment of Covid-19 pandemic in the district will be reported. The mobile numbers of this control room are (1) 6026900266 and (2) 7086021473.

In a proactive step, Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakant, the new Superintendent of Police Cachar has urged upon the people to report any illegal activity (with photo/video on WhatsApp) in his official mobile number 6026900230. He further informed that the identity of the person providing such information will be kept secret.

On Friday, a total of 486 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Friday in Cachar. This is the highest single day spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the district since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020. Friday witnessed demise of 05 more Covid-19 positive patients. 04 of them died at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), whereas, 01 died at Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC).
