Covid scare! LP Schools in Cachar closed till 8 May or until further orders
April 18: Considering the steady increase and latest surge in active COVID-19 cases in some of the Districts in the State of Assam, the Government in Education Department has decided to close down Lower Primary Schools (both Government and non-government) upto Class V including pre-Primary Schools in those Districts where the Deputy Commissioner of the District, as Chairman of DDMA is satisfied that the number of active COVID cases has crossed the 100-mark and the same shall he reviewed by the District Administration from time In time. This was stated in a notification issued by Preetom Saikia, Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt of Assam, Education Department on 17 April, 2021.
The decision will be taken by the District Disaster Management Authority headed by Chairperson, namely, Deputy Commissioner of the District under provisions of Section 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

However, in those Districts, where the total active COVID-19 cases is below 100, the Lower Primary Schools (Class I to Class V), including Pre-Primary Schools, shall function normally as per SOP issued by the Education Department vide Order No. ASE, 01/2020/PT-11/117 dated 28.12.2020. This Order will come into effect from the date of issue of this Notification and will remain in force upto 08.05.2021 or until further orders.
It has been decided that elementary schools will remain closed in districts with over 100 COVID cases. In schools, we’ll organize camps to vaccinate teachers over the age of 45.

In this connection, elementary schools (upto Class V) in Kamrup (Metro- 1860 active cases), Kamrup (Rural- 285 active cases), Dibrugarh- 323 active cases, Jorhat- 133 active cases, Nagaon- 144 active cases , Tinsukia- 131 active cases, Sonitpur- 119 active cases and Cachar- 120 active cases districts shall remain closed as COVID-19 active cases is these districts are more than 100. The number of such districts with 100 active cases might increase. This was announced by state Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference held at at at GMCH Conference Hall (GMCH) Conference Hall, Guwahati on Saturday evening.
