COVID-19 patient from Karimganj was quarantined in Cachar, new areas sealed
May 20: A COVID-19 positive case was reported from Karimganj on Wednesday night. Sharing this information, State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the person was already in a quarantine centre. The new COVID-19 positive person, a 24-year-old youth is a resident of Duhalia village at Faridkuna in Karimganj district. On arrival in Cachar, the youth was quarantined at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pailapool as per protocol. His swab samples were already collected. But when his swab reports came, it was positive. Later in the night, he was sent to COVID-19 ward at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH).
In an order issued by District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli on 20 May, it was stated that, to contain the further spread of the virus, the area surrounding JNV, Pailapool, Cachar (quarantine centre) would be sealed immediately. Further, the area inside the following geographical boundaries was immediately sealed:
- North: Sericulture farm
- East: Office of the BEEO
- South: Cultivated land
- West: Cultivated land
To implement the above instructions, following restrictions were also imposed in the geographical area mentioned above:
- Clear entry and exit points are to be established.
- No unauthorised entry and exit of the residents in the contained area will be allowed.
- Vehicular movement is to be strictly prohibited.
- No movement is to be allowed except for medical emergencies, essential goods and services.
- No unchecked influx of population is to be allowed
- People transiting are to be recorded and followed through IDSP.
- Stricter enforcement of all statutory directions regarding social distancing.
District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli stated that the orders are issued under the Regulations “The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020” and shall be effective from 09.00 PM of 20 May, 2020 until further orders.
