COVID-19: District administration to make 1000 bedded make shift hospital at Silchar DSA

March 26: In view of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the Cachar District Administration has recruited the campus of District Sports Authority (DSA), Silchar. On Wednesday, this decision was taken by the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar for constructing a make shift 1000-bed quarantine facility at DSA. In her order, DC Barnali Sharma wrote, “The make shift hospital will be constructed on temporary basis by utilising resources from the Army/ Assam Rifles as part of hospital preparedness.”

In this connection, a Construction Monitoring Team (CMT) was also constituted for monitoring overall facilities of this make shift hospital on immediate basis. A 4-member team was also made for this purpose under the supervision of Sumit Sattawan, IAS, ADC Cachar. The CMT were directed by the DC Cachar to visit the designated space frequently on a daily basis and monitor the overall situation. During the visit to DSA, Silchar, the CMT were also asked to ensure that all necessary arrangements are available and for this coordination with Army/ Assam Rifles is to be maintained.

In this connection, DC Cachar has already sent letters to the President and Secretary of DSA, Silchar. The army cantonment at Mashimpur was also sent an email by the district administration urging them to set to work immediately. District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar is hopeful that this make shift hospital will be ready within a week.

Though till now there is no report of any coronavirus positive cases in the three districts of Barak Valley, yet this step of making a 1000-bed make shift hospital was undertaken on a war footing by the Cachar district administration as a precautionary measure.
