Corona warrior Dr. Sangeeta accorded warm welcome by neighbours on return from quarantine
May 6: In sharp contrast to reports of manhandling and stigmatisation of doctors and nurses coming in from various parts of the country, Silchar exhibited a contrast scenario of compassion and humane approach. On Wednesday, 12 doctors and 18 health workers were discharged from institutional quarantine facility in Silchar in presence of the Deputy Commissioner Cachar. One such COVID-19 warrior, Dr. Sangeeta Roy Chakraborty after being discharged from quarantine facility at Hotel Sagarika Regency, Silchar was accorded a warm welcome by the residents of the apartment where she stays.
Dr. Sangeeta Roy Chakraborty, a PG student at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) was earmarked for duty in COVID-19 ward along with 11 more doctors, 6 nursing staff, 6 ward boys and 5 cleaners. Dr. Amit Kumar Kalwar was the team leader of this group who were engaged in the treatment of 3 COVID-19 positive patients at SMCH. They were engaged in COVID-19 ward at SMCH from 13 to 19 April, 2020. After that, the entire team was sent for institutional quarantine of 14 days as per protocol. Swab tests were done on 1st, 5th, 14th & 15th day and fortunately all the test reports were negative. Finally, they were discharged on 6 May. However, they will have to stay under home quarantine for another 14 days.
Dr. Sangeeta Roy Chakraborty like all other doctors discharged hurriedly returned to their home after almost a month. Hardly did she knew that such a lovely surprise awaited her at home. Sangeeta stays with her parents at Mangalam Apartment in Sonai Road, Silchar, opposite Sai Vikash School. She got married recently, but as her husband is employed in Delhi, Sangeeta works at SMCH and stays with her parents Pranab Kumar Roy and Maya Roy in a flat at Silchar. Her younger sister is also a doctor.
The moment she got down from a rickshaw near Sai Vikash School, Sangeeta was greeted by all the family members residing at Mangalam Apartment. Standing near the entrance of the apartment, ladies, gents, children were all welcoming Sangeeta with claps. A video shows people showering her with flower petals and clapping for her to show their appreciation for the work she been doing in the fight against coronavirus. It was indeed a surprise for a life time for her. Garlands were put around her neck. Wait, that was not the end. The moment she stepped inside her flat, she saw a cake arranged by all in the apartment. A cake cutting ceremony took place with roaring sound of claps for the COVID-19 warrior.
One such resident of the apartment told way2barak, “We are proud to reside in such an apartment where we have a brave COVID-19 warrior. Dr. Sangeeta has made us feel proud. Salute to her and all other corona warriors.”
