Cooking gas gets costlier by ₹25 per cylinder from 1 July

Chidambaram shares list of price hike in 8 months

July 1: The price of non-subsidised LPG cylinders weighing 14.2 kg has been hiked by 25 effective from July 1. The price of a 19-kg cylinder has also been increased by 76. The latest hike took the price of a non-subsidised cylinder up by ₹140 in the past six months.

Since the beginning of 2021, the price of LPG cylinder in January was Rs 694, which was increased to Rs 719 per cylinder in February. On February 15, the price was increased to Rs 769. In March, the price of the LPG cylinder was reduced to Rs 819. After the reduction of Rs 10 in early April, the price of domestic LPG in Delhi had gone up to Rs 809. In a year, the prices of LPG cylinders have increased by Rs 140.50.

The price hike comes along with the steep hike in petrol price which is inching towards a three-digit figure in several metro cities. Unlike petrol, LPG is available only at the market price across the country, though the government provides subsidies to a select group of consumers.

Congress MP and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram took to twitter on Thursday to share a list showing how LPG cylinder prices have increased from November 2000 till 1 July, 2021.
