Ex-DNLA cadre flees Haflong jail, warden suspended

way2barak, November 6: An undertrial prisoner, identified as Besting Jidung alias John Dimasa, escaped from the Haflong sub-jail in Assam’s Dima Hasao district around noon on Wednesday. Sub-jail warden Raitul Ali was suspended with immediate effect for his alleged negligence following the escape.

According to police sources, Jidung, a former cadre of Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA), managed to flee the prison premises under circumstances that are yet to be fully ascertained. The escape triggered a high alert across the hill district, prompting security forces to launch an extensive search operation to track down the fugitive.

An internal inquiry has been ordered to identify possible lapses in security arrangements at the sub-jail.
