Congress to celebrate 100 Years of Belagavi Session
Bengaluru, December 26 : The Congress party is celebrating 100 years of the Belagavi Congress Session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in 1924. A two-day mega event begins tomorrow at Belagavi, Karnataka, which includes a Congress conference and the unveiling of the Mahatma statue.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mr. Siddaramaiah has announced that a yearlong program is being organised to spread the message and ideals of Gandhiji. AICC President Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders are likely to participate in the programme.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Veera Soudha memorial, the venue of the 1924 Belgaum Congress session, in Belagavi. He took a look at the renovated park, memorial hall and library. He spun the charka kept in the front yard. Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar inaugurated the renovated photo gallery that displays photographs of Gandhiji and other leaders who attended the 1924 session. They went through the gallery and viewed images of the session that included Gandhiji’s speech, procession and baton transfer from leader Mohammad Ali.
