Congress tally less than 100 in Parliament; PM Modi says people punishing the party
Nov. 3: In an all time low, the number of Congress parliamentarians have dropped below 100 for the 1st time in the history of independent India. The Congress, which dominated the 242-member Rajya Sabha for a long time, is now down to its lowest ever tally of 38 seats. In the Lok Sabha, Congress has 51 MPs. That means, at present, the Congress now has a total of 89 members in parliament, far short of 100.
Taking a dig at the Congress party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally in Forbesganj, on a day Bihar is voting in the second round of three-phase polls to elect a new government said that people were punishing the party for its false promises of poverty eradication and farm loans waiver. “Today the Congress is in such a state that if you combine the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, even then they don’t have 100 MPs,” PM Modi said.
BJP, which is already the largest party in the Upper House, now stands at 92, though it is still way short of the majority mark of 123.
