Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi resigns, likely to join BJP soon
June 18: It’s another shock for Assam Congress. MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on Friday tendered his resignation to state Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary on Friday. Present there was State cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika. Later on, speaking with newsmen, he expressed dissatisfaction with top Congress leadership. He alleged that the leadership is reluctant to listen to the young party leaders. Terming the ‘present situation in Congress as worsening’, Kurmi said, “Rahul Gandhi is unable to shoulder the leadership of the party.”
Rupjyoti Kurmi, who was an MLA of Mariani constituency of Assam would in all probability switch over to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) soon. After tendering his resignation, Kurmi sharply criticised about the Congress’ pre-poll alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) during the recently concluded Assam Assembly Elections and termed it a “mistake”.
