Conduct of offline exams may worsen the situation, writes ADC Cachar to College Principals

April 20: The ongoing TDC (CBCS) Odd Semester Examination, LLB exams conducted in offline mode by Assam University has become one of the major cause of concern in the wake of the spike in the coronavirus cases. Till now mansy students and an AOC of the exam section of a college have been detected positive. Many students are in home isolation as their family members were found corona positive. As of now, Assam University and the College Principals are adamant of conducting the rest of the exams in offline mode. However, the college teachers have written to the Vice Chancellor of Assam University seeking his immediate intervention into this matter.

Meanwhile, on 19 April, Additional Deputy Commissioner (I/C Education) of Cachar has written a letter to the Principals of all Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools of the district, wherein apprehension was expressed that “Conduct of Offline Examinations may worsen the situation.” As such, the Principals were asked to take up this matter with higher authority.”

The ADC wrote, “In view of massive surge in COVID- 19 positive cases in Cachar District as well as detection of positive cases in the various Examination Centres during the conduct of Examinations held recently, various precautionary measures have been adopted to combat COVID-19 as per the SOP and guideline issued by the Government from time to time. All primary Schools have been already been closed.”

“In this situation, maintenance of Social Distancing is essential and in possible cases necessary steps may be taken to avoid direct and close contact among the people. Conduct of Offline Examinations may worsen the situation. I, therefore, request you to take up the matter with Higher Authority, ” added the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. A copy of the letter was also sent to the Controller of Examinations of Assam University.
