Colourful programme organised to mark the Golden jubilee of All India Radio, Silchar
Aug. 11: All India Radio (AIR), Silchar centre celebrated the completion of its glorious 50 years of establishment in its premises. On Thursday, a programme was organised to commemorate the foundation of AIR, Silchar. On this day in 1972, AIR Silchar started its journey.
The programme during the day compered by Anirban Jyoti Gupta began with a vocal recital by Rathindra Chakraborty. This was followed by welcome address delivered by Kush Prasad Yadav, Head, of the Engineering section of AIR, Silchar. In his speech, Mr Yadav unfolded the glorious history of AIR, Silchar and said, “This centre has well matched its footsteps with the technological progress of the present times.”
Gyanashri Das was the next artist who sang two melodious songs. Her songs was followed by a speech, which was delivered by the Programme Head, Hitabrata Bhattacharjee. In his speech, Mr. Bhattacharjee highlighted the relevance of AIR, Silchar and the role played by it during the recent devastating flood and similar other crisis of this valley. His speech paved the way to a musical performance again. Sandip Bhattacharjee also sang a melodious number.
The artists were accompanied in Tabla by staff artist of AIR, Sanjoy Prakash Das. Rajib Paul Choudhury played guitar whereas, in harmonium, Sandip Bhattacharjee accompanied the vocalists.
Staff of AIR Bikash Das recited a self- composed poem and earned appreciation of the audience. Former announcer of AIR, Silchar, Amit Sikidar in his speech went down the memory lane and spoke about some of the remarkable incidents.
Offering rich tributes to Martyr Khudiram Bose, Anirban Jyoti Gupta said that the people till now regard AIR as one of the most reliable source of information. The vote of thanks was offered by Lucky Deb. The celebration came to an end by cake cutting ceremony.
