College Teacher celebrates marriage anniversary by donating blood

Sept. 20: Usually ceremonies like marriage day are celebrated along with the kith and kin by cutting cakes and throwing lavish parties. But breaking off the traditional way of celebration, Dr. Shayam Mamud Barbhuiya celebrated his 7th marriage anniversary by donating blood. It needs mention here that he also donated blood during his 6th marriage anniversary in 2019.

On Sunday, Dr. Shyam Mamud Barbhuiya, Assistant Professor of the Department of History, Jagannath Singh College, Udharbond arrived at the Blood Bank of Red Cross Hospital, Silchar along with his wife Mehbooba. Members of the Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum also reached the Red Cross Hospital to congratulate Dr. Shyam on his unique decision.

Expressing his feelings, Dr. Shyam said, “Infact in 2019, I celebrated my marriage anniversary by donating blood. This year too, I have done the same. Celebrating the anniversary with family and friends is a selfish way of making a day memorable. But if I donate blood on this day, it would give me mental peace that that my blood will help another person to survive and to provide life to somebody else is perhaps the best way to celebrate any occasion.”

Sabyasachi Rudra Gupta, a dedicated soldier of the blood donation movement associated with Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum (BVVBDF) said, “Today it’s indeed a matter of jubilation to note that Dr. Shayam Mamud Barbhuiya, a college teacher donated blood on his marriage anniversary for a needy patient. It’s indeed a great example of humanism We salute him and wish the couple a happy married life. Long live the blood donation movement.”
