CM sends GI Tag Tezpur Litchis to PM and earn lavish praise from him

way2barak, Sept.2: The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) in November 2020 announced that Tezpur Litchi has been accorded the geographical indication (GI) tag. A geographical indication is used on a product of specific geographical origin that attains its uniqueness or reputation because of its place of origin. Litchi’s from Tezpur is known for its excellent quality, pleasant flavour, juicy pulp with attractive red colour.

Recently, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma sent Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a packet of GI tagged fresh litchis from Tezpur. The Prime Minister was highly impressed by this move and showered lavish praises for this sweet gesture by the Chief Minister.

In a letter sent to the Chief Minister, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “This is to convey my profound thanks for sending a packet of fresh litchis from Tezpur. The warm gesture is deeply appreciated. Our nation is blessed with nature’s wealth. Being grown in organic settings, high-quality, GI tagged Tezpur Litchi is carving out a niche for itself in the international market. I am sure that its great taste will appeal to people the world over, furthering the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’.”
