Tripura govt to distribute cooked food packets twice daily to urban poor for 21 days
March 25: In view of the Lockdown to combat COVID-19, it is felt that the urban homeless, construction workers and other urban poor may not have sufficient access to food. Keeping this aspect in mind, the Tripura government has decided to distribute cooked food items among the urban poor during the 21 days Lockdown throughout the state.
“We shall cook foods at different parts of the State maintaining hygiene & social distancing. Food packets will be served two times every day”, said Tripura Chief Minister Biplob Kumar Deb.
In an order issued by the Director, Urban Development Department, Govt of Tripura on 25 March, 2020, it was stated that, “In view of the lockdown, all ULBs are advised to set up kitchen for preparing cooked food i.e. khichuri at one place in each ULB. Any good ALF or SHG under DAY-NULM may be deployed for cooking and making food packets. Distribution of Food Packets to the urban poor twice daily may be done by using one or more dedicated vehicles by the respective ULB.”
It was further stated that, “It has to be ensured that there should be no accumulation of public at any place during the distribution of food packets. The distribution staff should be provided with gloves and sanitisers. Rice and Dal may be arranged from Food CS & CA department in respective District. Funds for the purpose are to be met up from SDRF.”
