CM congratulates Shakuntala Choudhury & Dhaneshwar Engti on being named for Padma Shri award

Jan. 25: The Union government revealed the name of the Padma awardees a day before the Republic Day celebrations in line with the annual traditions. A total of 128 personalities are on this year’s list of Padma honours. From Assam, Padma Shri awards were awarded to eminent social worker Shakuntala Choudhary and eminent litterateur Dhaneswar Engti. 

Congratulating the duo, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Delighted at the news of eminent litterateur Shri Dhaneswar Engti’s selection for the prestigious #PadmaShri award 2022. His contributions towards Karbi literature and music will forever be cherished by generations to come.”

“Heartiest congratulations to eminent social worker Smt Shakuntala Choudhary on her selection for #PadmaShri award 2022. She has devoted all her life for service of mankind. The #padmaaward is a fitting tribute to her contributions towards the society. I wish her all the best,” also tweeted Dr Sarma.

 The Padma honours are given for exceptional service in different fields – art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service. These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/ April every year.
