CM Assam instructs all SPs to reopen cases of unnatural deaths that took place in last 1 year
way2barak, Nov.11: Assam chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday instructed the Police Supers of all the districts in the state to reopen cases of unnatural deaths that took place in last one year. The Chief Minister said this while addressing the media at CM’s conference room at the Janata Bhawan.
“We have zero tolerance on crimes against minors. No one will be spared. In the recent unnatural death of a minor girl in Darrang, Assam CID has filed a chargesheet & initiated action against certain police officers for sabotaging the investigation. I acknowledge professionalism of Assam Police and their record pace of re-investigation. This case serves as a strong warning for those trying to shield criminals,” stated Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“I have asked the SPs to re-open all such cases which have been claimed to be suicide and have grey areas,” added the CM. The Chief Minister stated that the DIGs and SPs of the jurisdiction will be visiting the sites in person. Only when they are satisfied with the investigation, such a case of unnatural death will be closed. The Chief Minister also said that, any common man can seek re-examination of even 15-year-old cases.
