CM Assam condoles the death of Prof Partha Chanda in a letter addressed to his nephew
May 22: In a sad turn of events, senior BJP leader of Cachar and former Principal in-charge of GC College, Silchar, Partha Sarathi Chanda breathed his last on Wednesday late evening. He was about 72. He died due to a sudden cardiac arrest. Being a bachelor, he left behind his relatives, innumerable students and many party-men who mourned his demise. In a letter addressed to the nephew (Punyadeep Chanda) of Patha Sarathi Chanda on 21 May, 2021, who presently resides in Bangalore, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote “It really pains my heart to write to you at this moment of extreme grief.”
The Chief Minister wrote, “I humbly endure to share with you the testing times of your life though I know it would be difficult to do so and reduce the pain you and your family are going through at this moment. The news of sad demise of your uncle Partha Sarathi Chanda has come as a shock to me.”
Praising his skills as a teacher, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Partha Sarathi Chanda was an acclaimed educationist. As a professor he had immense role among the young minds. He had been an inspiration as a teacher, orator, mentor and a, great human being. He infused in his students the passion for English literature and its relevance. He was a perfectionist who always encouraged his students and other followers to strive for excellence with his down to earth attitude. As a professor he spread the seeds of knowledge and helped to stimulate an intellectually imbued society.”
The Chief Minister also lauded the role played by Partha Chanda as a leader of BJP. “As a leader of the BJP, he worked tirelessly to strengthen the party organisation. His passion, pursuit and prudence had drafted an inroad for the party to spread its influence in Barak Valley. I pay my tribute to this great soul. His death is an irreparable loss to the state. However, I am sure, the rich legacy he left behind will continue to inspire the posterity. At this moment of grief, I extend my solidarity with you and convey my deepest condolences. I pray for his soul to rest in eternal peace,” wrote the Chief Minister.
