Cleanliness drive and financial literacy programme mark Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada at Joypur

way2barak, November 12 : — The spirit of Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada came alive at Joypur Tribal Village under Rajabazar Development Block in Cachar district on Tuesday, as a series of community-oriented initiatives from cleanliness drives to financial literacy sessions were organised to honour the legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and promote inclusive tribal empowerment.

The day began with a Cleanliness Drive at Joypur Tribal Village, where villagers, officials, and volunteers joined hands to reinforce the message of hygiene and environmental responsibility. The event was followed by a plantation drive undertaken by Aadi Karmayogis and Aadi Sahyogis of Rajabazar Development Block, symbolising growth, sustainability, and the enduring bond between nature and tribal culture.

 

A solemn floral tribute was paid to Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the legendary tribal freedom fighter and social reformer, at the Shivasthan Community Hall, Joypur Pt IV. The tribute ceremony was graced by the Assistant Commissioner, District Heads, Block Development Officer (BDO), Rajabazar, Gaon Panchayat President, President of the ST Morcha Association, and members of various tribal communities. The dignitaries recalled the unparalleled contribution of Birsa Munda in India’s freedom movement and his vision of social justice for tribal communities.

Marking a significant highlight of the observance, a Financial Literacy Training Programme was also conducted at Shivasthan, Joypur, under Rajabazar Development Block, aimed at spreading financial awareness and promoting economic self-reliance among rural and tribal households.

 

During the programme, Lead District Manager addressed the gathering on Jan Dhan Accounts, Digital India initiatives, and the growing importance of cashless transactions, urging participants to embrace digital finance for secure and transparent banking. The District Fishery Officer sensitised the audience about the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), encouraging the community to explore fisheries as a sustainable livelihood avenue.

 

While Block Development Officer (BDO), Rajabazar, delivered a detailed address on flagship welfare schemes such as DAJGUA, MGNREGA, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the 15th Finance Commission Grants, Old Age Pension, and Orunodoi 3.0 Scheme, explaining their benefits and the mechanisms for availing them.

 

The training programme witnessed active participation from 266 attendees, including women, youth, and community representatives. The interactive sessions focused on strengthening grassroots awareness, ensuring that government schemes reach every deserving household.

 

The day-long observance, organised under the aegis of the District Administration Cachar, reflected a shared commitment to preserving tribal heritage while fostering socio-economic development.
