Ceremonial distribution of handloom accessories in presence of DC Cachar & MLA Lakhipur
June 17: Department of Handloom & Textiles, Cachar, conducted a ceremonial distribution programme on Tuesday, where loom & accessories, jacquard machine, warping drum & accessories of loom of Singer bond cluster development project SOPD-G for the year 2018-19 were distributed amongst the beneficiaries. This is a 3-year project with a total cost of Rs 2 crore covering 380 number of beneficiaries.
In the programme the fund released for 1st year was Rs 66.66 lakh in addition to that Skill Development Training completed on weaving, dyeing & designing covering 180 numbers of beneficiary for 1st year.The programme was graced by MLA, Rajdeep Goala, in presence of Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar and Assistant Director of Hand loom and Textiles ,Silchar and other officials.
While addressing the beneficiaries, Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli said that weavers of the cluster are doing excellent work. She appreciated the Manipuri Community for their works in handloom. She also discussed about three challenges faced by the weavers of the district such as, availability of yarn ,diversification of products and marketing of hand loom products. She assured to extend support from the end of district administration to overcome these challenges.
