এনআরসি-তে নাম না ওঠার কারণ জানা যাবে আগামী ১০ আগস্ট থেকে। আগে জানানো হয়েছিল, ৭ তারিখ থেকেই নিদিষ্ট আবেদনের ভিত্তিতে এনএসকে থেকে এ ব্যাপারে নিশ্চিত হওয়া যাবে। বিভিন্ন কারণে তিনদিন পিছিয়ে দিলেও বাকি শর্ত একই থাকছে। দাবি-আপত্তি বা সংশোধনের ফর্ম পূরণ করে জমা দিতে হবে ৩০ আগস্ট থেকে ২৮ সেপ্টেম্বরের মধ্যে। ফর্ম এনএসকে থেকে সংগ্রহ করা যেতে পারে। মিলবে এনআরসি ওয়েবসাইটে। রাজ্য সমন্বয়ক প্রতীক হাজেলা আজও জানিয়েছেন, যাদের নাম খসড়ায় ওঠেনি তাঁদের চিন্তার কোনও কারণ নেই। ১৯৭১ সালের ২৪ মার্চকে ভিত্তি ধরে সব প্রকৃত ভারতীয় নাম চূড়ান্ত নাগরিক পঞ্জিতে অন্তর্ভুক্ত হবে।

এ দিকে, প্রাক্তন কেন্দ্রীয় মন্ত্রী, লোকতান্ত্রিক জনতা দলের নেতা শরদ যাদব আজ বলেন, অসমে এনআরসি-র মতো একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় তৈরির আগে সর্বদলীয় বৈঠক ডেকে নীতিনির্দেশিকা তৈরির প্রয়োজন ছিল।

The final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam was released on 30 July, with names of 40, 07,707 persons excluded from the list. There were 3.29 crore applicants. It has included over 28 million individuals, thus giving them a pride of place as citizens, while excluding four million residents of the state. This final draft of the NRC in Assam emerged, provoking both passionate support and outrage.

However, the causes for non-inclusion of individuals in NRC can now be known from August 10 onwards. It was earlier informed that on the basis of enquiry by those whose names have been left out, the concerned NSK would state the reason for non-inclusion in black and white from August 7. But now due to certain exigencies, the date has been deferred by 3 days. The forms for claims, objection and correction are to be filled up and submitted within 30 August to 28 September. Such forms can be collected from the concerned NSK or NRC website.

NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela informed that those whose names have not been included in the final draft need not worry. Home Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament that there was no need to panic and those missing from the draft list could re-submit their papers. “Some people are unnecessarily trying to create an atmosphere of fear,” he said. “I want to assure all that there is no need for any apprehension or fear.” To be recognised as citizens, all residents of Assam had to produce documents proving that they or their families lived in India before March 24, 1971. On the other hand, former union minister Sharad Yadav has asserted that it was obligatory on the part of the government to convene an all party meeting for formulating guidelines before embarking upon finalizing NRC.
