গাড়ির ধাক্কায় মণ্ডপ ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত, ভাঙচুর, প্রহৃত চালকও

২১ অক্টোবর : গাড়ির ধাক্কায় একটি মণ্ডপের কিছু অংশ ভেঙে পড়ার ঘটনাকে কেন্দ্র করে শনিবার সন্ধ্যায় তুলকালাম কাণ্ড ঘটে গেল শিলচর অম্বিকাপট্টি এলাকায়। উত্তেজিত জনতার রোষে পড়ে জখম হয়েছেন গাড়িচালক। কিছু যুবক গাড়িটিতেও ভাঙচুর চালান। জনতার রোষে পড়ে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে একটি টোটোও। পরে খবর পেয়ে ঘটনাস্থলে পুলিশ পৌঁছে পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনে।

শনিবার রাত ন’টা নাগাদ অম্বিকাপট্টি চৌরঙ্গির পুজো মণ্ডপের পাশের সরু রাস্তা দিয়ে দ্রুতগতিতে একটি চেব্রলেট গাড়ি চলে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করে। তখনই গাড়ির ধাক্কা লেগে মণ্ডপের কিছু অংশ ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়। গাড়িটি এরপর বেরিয়ে যাবার সময় ইসকন মন্দিরের সামনে রাস্তার পাশে থাকা কয়েকটি মোটরবাইকও ধাক্কা দিয়ে ফেলে দেয়। তখনই ক্ষেপে যান কিছু মানুষ। প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা জানান, উত্তেজিত জনতা গাড়িটিকে আটকে তাতে ভাঙচুর করেন। আর এতে উত্তেজনার পারদ চড়তে থাকে। জনতার রোষ থেকে রক্ষা পাননি গাড়ির চালক। তাকে গাড়ি থেকে বের করে উত্তম মধ্যম দেওয়া হয়। স্থানীয় জনগণ অভিযোগ করেন, গাড়ির চালক সহ সবাই নেশাগ্রস্ত ছিল। তবে গাড়িচালক জনরোষে পড়লেও বাকিরা পালিয়ে যায়।

চৌরঙ্গি এলাকায় প্রায় ৪০ মিনিট ধরে চলে এই তাণ্ডব। খবর পেয়ে সেখানে দ্রুত ছুটে আসে পুলিশ। জনতার হাত থেকে গাড়িচালককে উদ্ধার করে পরে সিভিল হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যায় পুলিশ। গাড়ির অন্য যুবকদের পরিচয় জানা যায়নি। এ ঘটনায় এলাকাজুড়ে চাপা উত্তেজনা রয়েছে। পুলিশ গাড়িটি আটক করেছে।

October 21: It was like a storm in the tea cup when a vehicle hit a puja pandal and caused minor damade to it. The incident occurred at Saturday evening near ISKCON at Ambicapatty, Silchar. The excited mob physically assaulted the car driver. A few youth also damaged the car. Angry mob also damaged an electric driven auto. Police forces reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

A Chevrolet car was passing at a high speed through the narrow passage of the puja pandal at Chourangi point at Ambicapatty at around 9 PM on Saturday. The car collided with the puja pandal, thus causing partial damage to it. After that, the car also hit some of the two wheeler parked near ISKCON temple. This invited the wrath of the people. Eye witnesses revealed that the infuriated mob broke the car and physically abused its driver. People were of the view that the passengers’ along with the driver of the car were all intoxicated. However, others in the car escaped.

The incident led to a situation of chaos for around 40 minutes in the area. On being informed, police forced reached the spot and took hold of the driver of the car. He was then taken to Silchar Civil Hospital for treatment. Police has also taken the car in their custody. However, the identity of others who were in the car was not known.
