Cachar witnesses the other Kanhaiya as he immerses in performing puja at Bharam Baba

March 26: The firebrand former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar famous for his “Azadi” slogans was witnessed in a new incarnation in Silchar on Friday. He was in the town to campaign for the AIUDF candidate Karim Uddin Barbhuiya from Sonai. Kanhaiya Kumar  is at present the National Executive Council member of the Communist Party of India (CPI).

However, people of the valley on Friday witnessed the other Kanhaiya Kumar as he immersed himself in offering puja at Baram Baba Temple at Silcoorie. The firebrand CPI leader was seen to perform rituals inside the temple as the priest chanted the holy hymns. Kanhaiya Kumar spend around half-an-hour inside the temple offering prayer before the five different Gods and Goddesses over there. But that was not the end. As a practicing Hindu, Kanhaiya Kumar also offered prayers at the Durga Temple at Silcoorie Tea Estate. The local CPI leaders were wonder struck waiting there and watching their leader busy in performing puja.

After around an hour, the former JNUSU President and the present CPI leader went to address a gathering along with AIUDF candidate Karim Uddin Barbhuiya from Sonai. In his characteristic style, Kanhaiya raised his popular “Azadi slogans” amidst the cheer of a host of supporters. Taking a dig at the saffron brigade, Kanhaiya Kumar said, “A while ago, I offered puja at 2 places and heard the priests chant hymns about world peace and brotherhood. I took prayed for peace of all. This is the real Hinduism. Those who proclaim to shoot and kill others cannot be real Hindus. Those who do divisive politics should not be voted to power.”
