Cachar Police apprehends 3 trucks full of ‘Burmese Supari’; 4 arrested

July 18: Inspite of the strict warning issued by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, a syndicate has been still involved in transportation of ‘Burmese Supari’ using Barak Valley as a corridor. On Monday, 3 trucks (2 big trucks and a mini truck) carrying ‘Burmese Supari’ were apprehended while travelling from Mizoram in between Lailapur and Bhaga Bazar at Cachar district of Assam.

On the basis of a secret information, OC of Dholai Police Station, Manoj Pathak and in-charge of Lailapur Police Patrol Post, Nacheng Shyam apprehended the trucks laden with ‘Burmese Supari’ at the check post. The trucks entered Assam from Mizoram and were on their way to Barpeta and other states. Allegedly, the prime hands behind the Supari syndicate were involved in this incident.

A total of 156 bags (700 kg) of suspected ‘Burmese Supari’ worth around Rs. 30 lakh were recovered from the three trucks. Police has arrested 4 persons including the driver of the three trucks. They were identified as Dulal Miyan & Sanju Choudhury from Barpeta, Bimli Padang from Meghalaya and Shyamlal Singh from Himachal Pradesh. All of them were being interrogated by Dholai Police to find out more details.
