Cachar launches district wide EVM,VVPAT awareness drive

way2barak, February 7:—In a proactive and citizen-centric initiative, the District Administration, Cachar, under the guidance of the Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, has launched a comprehensive district wide awareness campaign on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems through EVM Demonstration Centres (EDCs) and Mobile Demonstration Vans (MDVs) for the upcoming General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, 2026.
The campaign commenced on 7th February 2026 and will continue until the announcement of the election schedule, with the objective of ensuring that voters across urban, semi-urban and rural areas are well-informed, confident, and familiar with the EVM VVPAT system.
An EVM Demonstration Centre has been established at the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar, Silchar, covering all seven Assembly Constituencies of the district  Lakhipur, Udharbond, Katigorah, Borkhola, Silchar, Sonai and Dholai. In addition, demonstration centres have been set up at key administrative offices, including the offices of the Circle Officers at Lakhipur, Udharbond, Katigorah, Sadar Revenue Circle (Silchar) and Sonai, the Office of the Block Development Officer, Borkhola, and the Office of the Co-District Commissioner, Dholai, thereby creating a strong institutional framework for continuous voter education and engagement.
To ensure deep grassroots outreach and last-mile connectivity, seven Mobile Demonstration Vans (MDVs) have been deployed across all Assembly Constituencies of Cachar district, covering a total of 1,732 polling station locations. The MDV campaign, which began on 9th February 2026, will continue till the declaration of the election schedule, following a structured outreach plan to ensure that every polling station location is covered at least once. This enables direct interaction with voters and hands-on demonstrations of the EVM and VVPAT system at the community level.
A detailed and structured schedule has also been prepared for all Development Blocks of Cachar district, including Rajabazar, Lakhipur, Binnakandi, Udharbond, Rongpur, Kalain, Katigorah, Borkhola, Tapang, Silchar, Banskandi, Sonai, Dholai, Narsingpur, Borjalenga and Palonghat, ensuring systematic, time-bound and coordinated awareness activities from 7th February to 3rd March 2026 across the district.
Through this comprehensive and coordinated initiative, the District Administration, Cachar, reaffirms its commitment to strengthening democratic participation, promoting electoral transparency, eliminating misinformation, and building public trust in the electoral process. The campaign aims to empower voters with knowledge, confidence and clarity regarding the EVM,VVPAT system, while encouraging informed and responsible participation in democracy, thereby laying a strong foundation for free, fair, transparent and inclusive Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026 in Cachar district.
