Cachar administration ramps up preparations for cyclone Remal’s impact

way2barak, May 27: The Cachar administration has taken extensive measures to ensure the safety and well being of the citizens in the wake of impending increase in rainfall and wind speed due to cyclone Remal.
Issuing a press release on Monday the district disaster management authority of Cachar informed that it has ramped up preparations along with other line departments, central agencies and district administration to face any eventualities  arising out of heavy rainfall and winds due to cyclone Remal.
It may be mentioned that the district disaster management authority held a series of meetings on coordination for response for flood and cyclone Remal with all the response agencies ,Central Agencies viz. IAF, Assam Rifles, AAI, CISF, NDRF & CRPF, Railway, IAG, and line Departments. Furthermore DDMA Cachar had also directed line Departments to constitute department wise task force for immediate response and to keep field level functionaries on high alert. Line departments were also asked to mobilise resources as and when required and keep it in ready position and to share alert received from IMD time to time to all field level functionaries of respective Departments. For immediate response DEOC -DDMA may be informed by the Department and the department were also asked to update situation report on immediate basis.
It was informed in the meeting that
the District Control Room will  remain 24X7 functional.
Meanwhile, District magistrate ,Cachar, Rohan Kumar Jha has issued an order on monday suspending swimming in river and water bodies , plying of boats and ferry service barring essential , relief and rescue operations . Fishing activities in rivers and water bodies are also suspended from  27th to 30th May.
It’s worthy to mention here that
In view of the Cyclone Remal, the Indian Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rainfall over Cachar on May 27 & 28, 2024.Orange alert has been issued for Dhubri, South Salmara, Bongaigaon, Bajali, Tamulpur, Barpeta, Nalbari, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and West Karbi Anglong. Red Alert has been issued for extremely heavy rainfall in Chirang, Goalpara, Baksa, Dima Hasao,Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj District.
